Mormon 7:1-8 Therefore Repent

Have students read verses 1-8 and list all the reasons Mormon gives for the remnant of the Nephites to repent. What is it that people must do today to show they have repented of their sins? For example, what must people do before they can be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost?

Mormon 7:9 This and That

Have students read this verse and explain what the words “this” and “that” stand for in these verses. How is it that the Book of Mormon may convince people that they should believe the Bible?

Mormon 8:1-14 I am Moroni

Read these verses and list the things that Moroni reveals about himself. What reasons does he have to be distressed? What reasons does he have to rejoice? How are we like Moroni?

Mormon 8:26-32 The Book of Mormon Shall Come

In these verses Moroni tells about the circumstances in the world at the time the Book of Mormon shall come forth. Have students read these verses and identify those circumstances. How are the things Moroni described like our circumstances today?

Mormon 8:33-41 I Know Your Doing

The Lord showed Moroni a vision of the people who would one day live in the days when the Book of Mormon would be published and available. What warnings does he give to people who live in this generation? Cross-reference: Ezekiel 16:49-50.

Mormon 9:1-5 Kindling Unquenchable Fire

In these verses Moroni uses the phrase “consciousness of” and then adds a word. What are the things the wicked will be conscious of that will “kindle a flame of unquenchable fire”? (verse 5)

Mormon 9:6-14 A Message to Unbelievers

Moroni offers some help to unbelievers by giving them some principles to ponder. What does he ask the unbelievers to consider about God and Christ that will make a difference when they stand before God to be judged?

Mormon 9:15-20 Miracles

Invite students to read these verses looking for principles related to miracles. What evidence is there in your own life that miracles still exist? What causes miracles to cease? What can we do to insure that miracles will still continue among us?

Mormon 9:21-31 Things to Consider

Moroni appears to believe that what he is writing will be the last thing he records on the plates. In verses 21-25 he introduces the promise that was made to the three Nephite disciples. What was the promise? In verses 26-31 he provides a checklist of things we can do to receive the promise given to the three Nephites. Invite students to read through the list and comment on an item they feel is particularly significant to them.

Mormon 9:32-37 An Imperfect Record?

Have students read these verses and explain why Moroni feels the record kept by his ancestors is not perfect. If the record is not perfect what, according to Moroni is the value of the record? Have students explain how this record, which is not perfect, has made a difference in their lives. Remind students of the statement made by Joseph Smith concerning the Book of Mormon (see sixth paragraph of the Introduction). Cross-reference: D&C 17:6.

Mormon 1-6 The Entire Destruction of the Nephites

Mormon 1:1-10 Mormon Called

Summarize the things we learn about Mormon from these verses. How is the calling of Mormon similar to the calling of Joseph Smith? How is it similar to the calling of a Melchizedek Priesthood holder?

Mormon 1:11-19 No Gifts from God

List the gifts that the Lord removed from the Nephites. What happens to people who have had the gifts of God who are no longer worthy of them? Cross-reference: D&C 1:13-16.

Mormon 2:1-15 The Day of Grace Was Passed

In verses 11-14 what caused Mormon to rejoice? What caused him to feel sorrow? How are Mormon’s feelings similar to the feelings the Lord himself has for his children? Cross-reference: Exodus 20:3-6; D&C 76:5-10.

Mormon 2:16-29 The Lord Did Not Abide with Us

Look at these verses and find the words God, Lord, and Spirit. What help did the Nephites receive from the Godhead in these terrible years of battle? What were the consequences? What have been the consequences in your life when you have not included the Lord or have not been worthy of the Lord’s blessings?

Mormon 3:1-16 Mormon Refuses to Lead the Nephite Armies

In verse 16 Mormon declares that he refused to lead the Nephite armies against the Lamanites. Read verses 1-15 and see if you can find reasons why he would make such a decision. Cross-reference: D&C 103:12-20.

Mormon 3:17-22 I Write unto You

Mormon uses these verses to make an editorial comment, to send a message to the reader. As you read these verses, what is the overarching principle that Mormon is trying to teach you? How will your life be blessed if you will follow this principle?

Mormon 4-6 The Ministry of Mormon

Have students read the following verses and summarize the feelings and observations of Mormon as he records the final years of the Nephites before their entire destruction. Mormon 4:11-12, 21; 5:2, 8, 10-24; 6:19-22. Why would the Lord want us to have this record? What can we do to prevent the entire destruction of a nation and people?
