2 Nephi 1:7
7 Wherefore [because no one comes to this land unless he has been brought by the Lord], this land is consecrated unto him [the man] whom he [the Lord] shall bring. And if it so be that they [persons who are brought to this land by the Lord] shall serve him [the Lord] according to the commandments which he [the Lord] hath given, it [this land] shall be a land of liberty unto them [persons who keep the commandments]; wherefore [because this land shall be a land of liberty for the obedient], they [persons who are brought to this land and are obedient] shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it [their being brought into captivity] shall be because of iniquity [define word]; for if iniquity shall abound [define word] cursed shall be the land for their sakes [define phrase], but unto the righteous it [the land] shall be blessed forever.
Awake and Arise from the Dust
Have students read 2 Nephi 1:13-14, 21-23, and discuss why Lehi wanted his rebellious sons to “awake and arise from the dust.” What can we do to show the Lord that we have awakened and arisen from the dust?
Redemption through the Holy Messiah
The Holy Messiah offered Himself as a sacrifice for sin.

2 Nephi 2:6-10
6 Wherefore [because we have been cut off from the presence of God through disobedience to temporal and spiritual laws], redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth.
7 Behold [pay attention!], he [the Holy Messiah] offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law [define phrase], unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit [define phrase]; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.
8 Wherefore [because only those with broken hearts and contrite spirits can be redeemed], how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they [the inhabitants of the earth] may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be [define phrase] through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it [his life] again by the power of the Spirit, that he [the Holy Messiah] may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise.
9 Wherefore [because he has brought to pass the resurrection and is the first to resurrect], he [the Holy Messiah] is the firstfruits [define word]unto God, inasmuch as he shall make intercession [define phrase] for all the children of men; and they [the children of men] that believe in him [the Holy Messiah] shall be saved.
10 And because of the intercession for all, all men come unto God; wherefore [because all men resurrect and come to God], they [all men] stand in the presence of him [God], to be judged of him [God] according to the truth and holiness which is in him [God]. Wherefore [because all men will stand before God to be judged], the ends of the law [define phrase] which the Holy One hath given, unto the inflicting of the punishment which is affixed, which punishment that is affixed [define word] is in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed, to answer the ends of the atonement— [define phrase]
The Redemption of Mankind
Invite students to read 2 Nephi 2:15-26 and list the things that God, the devil, and Adam and Eve did to bring about the redemption of man. Why was it important for man to be able to act for himself?
Choices
Have students read 2 Nephi 2:27-30 and mark all forms of the word choose (choose, chosen). Why is it important that we have the power to choose?
