Alma 5:1-6 Remember God’s Deliverance
Alma, the son of Alma, told the members of the Church in Zarahemla what they should remember. What were those things? What are things we should remember today to increase our faith in God?
Alma 5:7-13 A Mighty Change of Heart
Alma told the people of the spiritual deliverance his father had, together with other believers. Compare the deliverance spoken of in Alma 5:1-6 to the deliverance spoken of in Alma 5:7-13. Why did Alma emphasize “this is all true”? What truths must we remember concerning our own deliverance from temporal and spiritual bondage?
Alma 5:14-31 Questions of Faith
In these verses Alma asks the people of Zarahemla 21 questions about their own salvation. Have students choose two or three of these questions and summarize them in their own words. What is the common theme spoken of in these questions? Why must all believers ask themselves these same questions today?
Alma 5:32-43 Receiving the Wages of Eternity
Have students read these verses and explain the difference between the sheep of the good shepherd and the sheep who are not of the good shepherd. Explain that there are only two folds and that we are either in the fold of Christ or the fold of the devil. What are the wages of Christ? What are the wages of the devil? Cross-reference: Romans 6:23; Mosiah 2:33; D&C 29:45.
Alma 5:44-52 The Testimony of Alma
Have students find things that Alma knows. How does he know these things? How has his life changed because of the things he knows? Ask students what they know about God and how they know it.
Alma 5:53-62 Names Written in the Book of Life
What is the difference between those who have their names written in the Book of Life and those who shall have their names blotted out of that book?
Alma 6:1-6 Re-Establishing the Church
What did Alma do to try to keep members of the Church from falling away? How do these same things keep us from falling away today?
Alma 7:7-13 The Son of God Cometh
Alma tells the people of the city of Gideon all that he knows about the coming of Christ. What does Alma know about Christ’s coming? What do we know about Christ’s Second Coming and how do we know it?
Alma 7:14-27 Awakening a Sense of Our Duty to God
Alma explains the difference between souls that are clean and souls that are filthy. Have students find what must be done to have a clean soul when they stand before God to be judged.
