Doctrine and Covenants Section 65

Historical Background

In the year and a half since the Church had been organized, the Lord had revealed the organization of the Church, the laws that would govern those who wanted to be a part of it, the location for the New Jerusalem, and other important matters pertaining to the kingdom of God. And, all of this, in preparation for the Second Coming of the Savior in glory. This section of the Doctrine and Covenants is a prayer, received by revelation, that addresses the glory that is to come if we are faithful.

D&C 65:1-3 Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord

What has been given to man upon the earth to prepare the way for the Lord’s Second Coming?

D&C 65:4-6 Pray unto the Lord

According to verses 4 and 5, what are we to pray for and why? What does the Prophet Joseph pray for in verse 6? What can we do, in addition to praying, to help the kingdom of God “go forth upon the earth?” Cross-reference: D&C 64:33-35.
